Born in 1960, Mário José Gomes Lopes obtained a degree in Business Management from the Instituto Superior de Economia de Lisboa. He attended several executive education courses at the Motorola University in UK and at INSEAD in France.

Mário José Gomes Lopes started his career in the Portuguese Air Force, as a Traffic Controller, then joined the banking industry in 1981 as Customer Account Manager at Banco Espirito Santo. In 1988, he became Sales and Customer Service Manager for Hispamer (leasing) and went on to GE CAPITAL Fleet Services, primarily as CEO for Portugal then as CEO for both Spain and Portugal.

In 1997, he joined IMPRESA. Until 2001, he was the CEO for the EXPRESSO weekly newspaper. He got promoted and took over the position of IMPRESA CEO Publishing Division in Lisbon. Mário José Gomes Lopes has been Chief Executive Officer of Edimpresa since May 2007.
