The Edipresse publishing group is also one of the most important printers in Switzerland. Its commercial printing operations (using sheet-fed printing machines) are principally handled by IRL (Imprimeries Réunies Lausanne) in Renens and the Corbaz printing plant in Montreux.
Edipresse has decided to pursue a modernization programme of its commercial printing facilities in order to keep to the forefront with regard to technology and customer service in this very demanding market. After the initial installation in January 2004 of a large, 10-colour printing press with double-sided printing capabilities, a second similar machine was ordered and will be set up at the IRL works in Renens in early 2005.
Included in this restructuring will be the physical regrouping of sheet-fed printing operations in Renens under the name of IRL S.A., for reasons of efficiency. No redundancies will result from this change of work location.
The Corbaz facilities in Montreux and Aigle will maintain specific activities including newspaper prepress operations, the I-press S.A. press for local-area printing and the Zuliani S.A. company which is specialised in high quality photolithography and digital database management.
As a result of this investment, IRL will reinforce its position as the leading graphic arts enterprise in French-speaking Switzerland, possessing widely recognized know-how, professional competence and customer-oriented performance.
