Interview with the Director of Human Resources

Blaise Oberson

What are the Human Resources' objectives of the Edipresse Group?
The Edipresse Group is expanding more and more internationally while continuing to diversify its principal activities: newspapers, magazines and digital publishing, as well as the quickly developing new luxury watchmaking sector. Therefore, we must attract and hold onto the most talented individuals in these increasingly precise and varied sectors. The policies we establish must give value to and develop competencies so as to attract and retain our employees. Another element is ensuring succession planning for key positions. A busy programme!

What means ? What tools ?

Each staff member knows that the Group is ready to invest significantly in their personal and professional development. Our training department has doubled its budget over the past two years and has established systems to best match up positions and individuals. The Group has also established evaluation and appraisal tools that bring real added-value to individual careers and development (i.e. talent development and training). Of course, internal mobility is a key tenant to our HR policy. As for our remuneration policy, we want to be competitive in the marketplace. Lastly, we provide our different entities with a lot of manoeuvring room to allow them to conduct their activities. This provides motivation, freedom to take decisions, and a general sense of fulfilment.

What role do the subsidiaries have in accomplishing this ?

An essential one. The Group's strength rests on its cultural diversity, its extraordinary international potential in terms of competences, know-how, and creativity. Consider Edipresse as an incredible melting-pot of nationalities and cultures that share the same values: independence, freedom of expression and diversity.

And this provides Human Resources a key role: to centralise our "best practices" (and they are many!), to bring together our talented individuals and to involve them in all of the Group's areas and entities. This task demands everyone's active involvement.

And what are the consequences?

The Group is truly considered an attractive workplace. This is clearly visible in the job applications that we receive from candidates. We can easily recruit high calibre professionals, who are interested in our company's fast-paced environment.

This is also true internally. If we believe our latest satisfaction surveys carried out in Switzerland, Romania, Russia and Poland, our staff enjoys working at Edipresse. They feel that their work is recognised and appreciated.

What is the profile of the ideal Edipresse candidate ?

We live and work in a constantly evolving and fast-paced world. Therefore a strong capacity to adapt and a desire to develop and progress are essential. Furthermore we highly value individuals who never take things for granted, but who instead enjoy self-evaluation and who look constantly for improvements. Lastly, we constantly require creative and innovative people who are able to sell and convince…But also realistic individuals prepared to do what it takes to put ideas into practice.
