Edipresse will acquire new rotary presses and regroup its printing plants in Bussigny from 2006

24 June 2004 - Edipresse Switzerland

Edipresse, the second largest publishing house for printed media in Switzerland,

continues to optimize its printing operations by investing in new installations (rotary

presses and distribution centres) for a total amount of CHF 28 million.

The new rotary presses and associated distribution equipment will be installed in

Bussigny in 2006. Orders will be placed with suppliers starting in the autumn of 2004.

With regard to organisational aspects, the printing plants will be merged and

regrouped under the name of « Centre d'Impression Edipresse » (CIE) on the Bussigny

site, which will be enlarged for the purpose. The heavy investment level demands that

production be regrouped in one location in order to be profitable, and no longer

continue to be split between two sites as is currently the case.

Until 2006, newspapers will be produced partly at CIE-L in Bussigny (notably 24

Heures, Tribune de Genève, and Le Matin) and partly at CIE-G in Vernier (in particular

Le Temps, La Presse Riviera Chablais , and La Presse Nord Vaudois). From 2006 all

publications will be printed in Bussigny. There will be no more production in Vernier

after the shift.

Edipresse will carry out the operation with no layoffs and will offer continued

employment in Bussigny from 2006 to all current employees on the two printing sites.

By this policy of determined action with confidence in the future of the printed press,

Edipresse is helping to maintain a state-of-the-art publishing operation in Frenchspeaking

Switzerland of a European level. In particular, the future CIE will be able to

compete on equal terms with German-speaking Switzerland, where several

printing/publishing houses have recently invested massively in new equipment.
